Nchengo Estate lies on the river Ndarugu which flows all year round and provides plentiful irrigation for the farm. The rivers year round presence provides a tempering climate influence and keeps the humidity higher and well balanced. The farm has been under coffee since 1933 and has a tremendous history of coffee production. With 1,384 trees per hectare the relatively low tree density contributes to extremely healthy trees and more importantly healthy coffee tree roots.
Nchengo Estate is a well managed and beautiful farm in Kiambu county. Owned by the Kinyua family for 4 generations. The farm is fully Rainforest Alliance Certified and Utz Kapeh certified.
Kenya is well known for its highly organized network of coffee cooperatives. The topography of high-altitude plateaus in major Kenyan coffee regions combined with acidic soil provides excellent growing conditions for Arabica.
All Kenyan coffee is graded primarily by screen size (a measure of the size of the bean, larger being higher grade) immediately after milling. The AA Grade is the top grade based on screening. After grading, there are two general quality distinctions for AA. The plus grade which this coffee is means there is only a minimal amount of slight defects allowed as long as no effect on the cup.
